My first visit to Tenerife and El Medano. Rented kit from Surf Center Playa Sur on South Beach - Naish Wave Quest and 5.3m Force sail - in very good condition. Cross shore wind, small waves then rolling swell. Swell became very steep a little further out.

It took me quite a while to get used to the board which at 100 litres was perhaps a little large for the conditions, but the next size down was much smaller. I found the conditions quite challenging and was probably making the usual mistake of sailing with bent arms and choking the power from the sail. However after a rest and some adjustments managed some excellent runs; small jumps on the way out and riding the swells on the way back in. Awesome acceleration down the step swells.

The wind dropped around 4pm and that was it for the rest of the week. The day before was 4 metre weather and the conditions looked epic but I was too jet lagged to go out. I would say that it is well worth a return visit later in the year when the wind should be more consistent.
